SERVICES

Coral Kids Dentistry and Braces stands behind a three-pronged approach to providing the most optimal dental care possible for your child: Education, Preventative Dentistry and Caries Risk Assessments.
Our St. Catharines pediatric dental specialists put a large emphasis on education, preventative dentistry and caries risk assessments.

l

Education

We provide our patients first-hand education on everything from tooth growth and development, oral hygiene, diet, treatment procedure explanation and more.

Our dental specialists pride themselves in teaching our Niagara Region dental patients about the importance of creating long-term habits, fostering compliance and finally commitment to maintaining optimal oral and systemic health.

This will ultimately lower and possibly eliminate the risk for requiring invasive dental procedures in the future.

Preventative Dentistry

At every visit your child will receive a routine cleaning to ensure proper habits are being formed and to eliminate deposits that toothbrushes cannot do on their own.

The appointment may involve
(and is dependant on the plan formed for your child):

  • Checking the health of your child’s mouth, gums and teeth
  • Removing any plaque or tartar from teeth
  • Cleaning and polishing of the teeth
  • Applying fluoride
  • Taking X-rays to look for any cavities between the teeth
  • Dental care education

Caries Risk Assessment

During every appointment, Dr. Rullo will perform a caries risk assessment. This assessment from our pediatric dentist in Niagara includes but is not limited to:

    • Cavity risk analysis
    • Diet analysis
    • Fluoride ingestion analysis
    • Oral hygiene analysis
    • Determine individualized factors that may contribute to tooth decay

    Our Services

Coral Kids Dentistry and Braces is a full service pediatric dentist office in St. Catharines, Ontario. We provide the following services:

    Digital X-rays

We take pride in our ability to take X-rays of diagnostic quality on children as young as 2 years of age. Instead of your child having to put a bulky sensor in his or her mouth, our “spaceship” like X-ray machine will rotate around your child’s head while he or she bites on a stick for 20-30 seconds. This latest technology in digital radiography also has the added benefit of emitting less radiation than older forms of X-ray technology, allowing us to receive the information we require without any added health risks to your child.
Not only are X-rays used to look for cavities in between teeth that are not visible to the naked eye, they are also a vital tool when looking at other dental conditions including erupting teeth, bone disease or in planning for future orthodontic treatment.

    Cavities / fillings

Here at Coral Kids we provide composite fillings, which are tooth-coloured resins used to fill cavities. The composite resin is made of a blend of different plastics and fillers which bond with the tooth’s surface in thin layers after our Niagara area pediatric dentist removes all decay from the tooth.

If your child has a larger cavity, we often recommend putting a crown on the tooth. For the front teeth, we use white crowns to ensure an esthetic look is maintained, while if it is in the back, we suggest using a medical grade stainless steel crown. Stainless steel crowns are much more durable and are best able to protect your child’s baby tooth until it is time for it to fall out.  They do not contain mercury.

    Extractions

There may come a time when your child needs to have a tooth removed for many different reasons including being badly damaged from tooth decay, oral trauma, gum disease as well as growth and development or orthodontic needs.

    Pupal Therapy (Baby Root Canals)

If a cavity goes deep enough to extend into the pulp of your child’s tooth, pulp therapy, sometimes referred to as a baby root canal is recommended. As pediatric dental specialists, we can perform this under the appropriate level of sedation to ensure we are able to remove all of the infected nerve in order to preserve the tooth until the adult tooth is ready to come in. These are not like adult root canals and are much easier for a child to handle. This will also allow your child’s adult tooth to form and grow into a healthy environment.

Tongue Tie and Oral Airway Assessment

Difficulties breastfeeding is one of the first signs that your baby may have what is called a tongue tie or a lip tie. This is caused when the membrane of tissue connecting the lip or tongue is too tight, which causes restriction in movement. Some issues that can arise include:

    • struggling to latch on to the breast
    • difficulty breathing during feeding
    • making a clicking sound while nursing
    • falling asleep often during nursing
    • acting extremely fatigued by nursing
    • slow weight gain or lack of weight gain
    • colic

Babies who have breastfeeding difficulties should have a feeding evaluation. If they have problems with their latch, our pediatric dentist will be able to quickly determine if lip tie or tongue tie is the cause and be able to quickly correct the issue.

    Frenectomy procedure

Should your child require their lip tie or tongue tie to be released, we would perform what is called a Frenectomy in our St. Catharines pediatric dental office.

The experts on breastfeeding, La Leche League, suggest that a Frenectomy causes very little to no pain or discomfort for the baby, and can be especially effective if the treatment is prompt and provided by a skilled dental surgeon.

    Sedation and General Anaesthesia

We specialize in children dentistry and provide all care in our office, which means we do not have to refer your child to any other office to ensure they receive the treatment and care they not only need, but deserve. Our Niagara pediatric dental office prides itself on proving in-office treatment for our patients that have come to trust and rely on us as their dentists, and this includes receiving sedation and general anesthesia.
